Daily Puck Drop: Ryan Grubb Fired. What's Next For The Seahawks? Steve Gleason...Great Human Ever

January 6, 2025

On Monday’s Daily Puck Drop, Jason “Puck” Puckett rides solo to start the show because Jim Moore, the Go-2-Guy is out sick.  Puck starts off the show talking bout the firing of Ryan Grubb as the Seahawks offensive coordinator.  Later in the show, Puck welcomes former Seahawks linebacker Lofa Tatupu and connects with Monday regulars, Tim Booth from the Seattle Times and Curtis Crabtree from FOX 13 for the Ground Puck Seahawks Podcast.

To start the show, before Lofa jumps on, Puck expresses his surprise that Grubb was let go.  He’s not going to die on the hill to support Grubb, but he thinks it was a mistake to move on after just one season, but Mike Macdonald has shown one thing as a new young football coach, he does not mess around and is willing to quickly pull the plug on personnel if it’s not working.

12:10 - Former Seahawks linebacker, Lofa Tatupu joins the show to react to the breaking news of the Ryan Grubb firing. Puck and Lofa also recap the season and look back on what worked and what did not.  Was it the right choice to move on from Grubb and what does Lofa want to see in the next hire?  They also discuss the future of Geno Smith and D.K. Metcalf.  How much pressure is on John Schneider this offseason to fix his offensive line?  Lofa weighs in on if he thinks the Seahawks would have parted ways with Grubb had the Seahawks made the playoffs.

53:30 - PuckSports handicapper, TroyWins.com joins Puck along with the 2024 winner of the Puck the Picker Pig Skin Pick ‘Em, Dwayne Mathis.  Dwayne wins an all expense paid trip to Las Vegas, staying at the Circa Hotel, for the 2025 first round of the NCAA Tournament! Be sure to get registered next season to get an opportunity to win a trip!

1:02:16 - Puck comes back on and offers more insight on the firing of Grubb and what this means for the Seahawks. Puck says the next hire will obviously be the most important decision that Macdonald will make in his young coaching career because if he doesn’t get this right, the Seahawks will again be stuck in this offensive coordinator carousel that they have been in for the last ten years.

1:07:16 - Ground Puck Seahawks Podcast with Tim Booth, Seattle Times and Curtis Crabtree, FOX 13 jump on from the VMAC where they were in the Seahawks locker room interviewing players on their clean out day and getting comments on the firing of Grubb.  Geno Smith was not available and all notable offensive players refused to comment or be interviewed.  Tim and Curtis give their reaction to the firing and offer insight on what direction they feel the organization will go in with their next hire.  They dive into the future of quarterback Geno Smith and how they can make it work financially and what options do they have with D.K. Metcalf, who enters his final year of his contract. Will they explore trading D.K. in the offseason?

1:31:22 - “Hey, What the Puck?!”  Puck reacts to Steve Gleason, former WSU linebacker, who was diagnosed with ALS 14 years ago, and detailed via social media that he has lost the ability to communicate.  Steve was using his eyes and a special computer program to communicate with his followers and family, unfortunately, he has now lost that ability.  Puck calls Steve the greatest human being he’s ever encountered.
